10th Grade students and their biology teacher create a Sanitary Pad from aquatic weed Water Hyacinth that costs only Rs. 3

A unique innovation of combining the world’s worst aquatic weed, Water Hyacinth with health care for women concerning Menstrual Hygiene.

In June 2018, Henna, Aswathi and Sreejesh, students of class 10 of Ahammed Kurikkal Memorial Higher Secondary School (AKMHSS) in Kerala’s Kottoor participated in the National Children Science Competition (NCSC). The theme of the competition was ‘Science, technology, and innovation for a clean, green and healthy nation’ with a sub-theme ‘waste to wealth’. Moreover, the competition was mainly concerned with solving any major problem in one’s locality which in this case was controlling the proliferation of Water Hyacinth.
