A community-driven Rural Innovation studio, enabling design thinking among rural children. An electricity independent low cost, neonatal continuous positive Airway Pressure device. A setup to offer free access to legal and consulting services to women facing violence. Biodegradable pads made out of discarded bananas. A rural spice enterprise creating livelihoods for rural women for indigenous spices.
The aforementioned examples showcase a vibrant string of good happening across the landscape of India, partaken in and built by the youth of our nation. But, beyond the notion of innovation, these diverse solutions also hold a strong supporter; a supporter that has often stayed behind the scenes and portrayed these solutions in the limelight. These solutions and innovations, amongst 26 grassroots innovations, have been supported by 3M and Confederation of Indian Industries since the past 5 years with their 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award.
On a global stage, 3M has long been a proponent of innovation which had applications in solving real-time problems, pestering billions across the globe. Carrying this message forward, 3M India in partnership with CII, launched the Young Innovators Challenge Awards in 2014 at the Tenth anniversary of the CII India Innovation Summit to create a platform to identify, recognize, and support young innovators who are at an early stage of launching sustainable solutions towards solving key socio-economic problems.
Overall, The 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award program has so far helped source over 1500 ideas, awarded 26 innovations and provided grant support, executive coaching and mentorship to enable the winners’ personal growth and capacity enhancement.
The Optimist Citizen is happy to partner with The 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award 2019 to recognise and amplify the impact of youth-led grassroots innovations in India. The applications for 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award is now open.
