Read the endless possibilities of a new Bacteria-powered battery manufactured on a single sheet of PAPER!

Envision the possibility where an individual would require a single sheet of paper to charge his device and extra batteries. Forget rooms for storage. The energy source could be stored and availed in reams.

Well, the researchers at Binghamton University– SUNY (State University of New York) are spearheading this pioneering move into the future of technology. This radical achievement stands with the usage of a simple chromatography paper with bacteria filled liquid over it. To amplify the peculiar working of this paper-battery, diverse layers are added for anode, cathode and proton exchange membrane, which consequently drives out the required power. The major advantages that hinge with this device are its minimised fabrication time and cost.

The paper-based battery is a forerunner of an exciting field of research called Papertronics, which is a fusion of paper and electronics. With various discrete methodologies for folding this paper device, it gave out diverse efficiencies. Though the energy produced at the current level seems low, but the invention would surely prove crucial in cases of urgent energy needs in the most unlikely situations.

Immensely broadening the horizons for effective energy solutions, Papertronics is certainly emerging as a sustaining force that would fabricate a feasible path for our escalated energy needs.
