Ways in which people of Bhopal can help during Corona Emergency

The pandemic spread has caused a week-long lockdown in the city. As the citizens cooperate to curb it’s spread, there has been a spike in the panic around essentials. There are growing areas of concern which require civic participation. We have curated a list of a few ways you can participate and help the city come out of this crisis:

Providing masks and Sanitizers to doctors at AIIMS Bhopal

AIIMS Bhopal is the largest tertiary care centre in Madhya Pradesh. In the midst of the COVID pandemic, it has become the epicentre for testing, COVID patient care etc. However, junior doctors are not provided prescribed Protective gear. It is learnt that there is a shortage of these even in places like the ER, which is the most likely point of contact for suspected cases.

This team of medical warriors is looking for masks/sanitizers that are in spare in this time of public health emergency.

Serve food to those economically affected due to the curfew in Old Bhopal

A big population of low income and marginalised lives are dependent on daily wages. Their survival is so severely hit by lockdown that they are looking to work even during this pandemic so as to get themselves food. A collaborative campaign has been started to help them get their daily meal by local groups.  The food is supplied as breakfast, lunch and dinner by volunteers to people living in slums and street. All safety precautions are taken by the volunteers before venturing on the streets.

As the need increases, the team is looking for people who can contribute with money/cooked food/ raw food or even as volunteers.

Serve food to those economically affected due to the curfew and also stray animals in New Bhopal

Feeding Bhopal aims to make sure no one is left hungry in this time of lockdown and isolation, irrespective of their caste, creed, or species. They are urging people to donate funds towards procuring and distributing food, medicines, and basic necessities like soap, sanitary pads etc in Bastis near New Bhopal in coordination with Shahri Mazdoor Sangathan. They are also feeding stray animals like cows, dogs, cats, birds, and pigs because the food on the streets is scarce and we don’t know when would we be back to being a flourishing city.

The Bhopal based NGO Muskaan is providing pulses, vegetables, oil, rations to a cluster level of 50 families at one go so that a minimum number is provided support in one trip. Biscuits, Eggs, Fruits are also being provided for 100 children regularly.

A lot of senior citizens in the city live alone and are unable to get direct help from their children due to the sealing of city borders. The elderly are more prone to fall prey to the infection. Stats reveal that the fatality of the virus is extremely high for people above the age of 60. The situation has invariably kept most of the senior citizens homebound. A group of young people is volunteering to supply these essential to their doorsteps and is looking for volunteers. The assist would help them get the supplies at the right time.
