Habibganj Railway Station will once again create history. India’s first ISO 9001 certified railway station will now also become the country’s first private railway station.
Habibganj Railway Station, a railway station in the suburbs of Bhopal will ideate a new concept for railway stations in India. Getting renovated under a public-private partnership (PPP), people will see Habibganj turn into a fancy commercial space hosting shops, offices, restaurants, hotels and even a hospital, over a period of 3 years.
Bhopal based Bansal Group scored the project. Along with an infrastructure and construction business, Bansal Group also runs local television channels and educational institutions in the city. Through this contract, they have also received 4 land parcels on lease for 45 years.
The construction company will invest INR 100 crores to renovate the railway station and a total of INR 350 crores to develop the commercial land parcels. A total of 17,245 sq. m of land will be developed in this project.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu commenced the railway station re-development work in the state capital. It is planned that the railway station will be redeveloped in two phases. The first phase will comprise of developing office-cum-shopping complexes and the second phase will witness a multi-speciality hospital long with different hotels ranging from budget hotels to five-star hotels. The station will also have world class waiting rooms.
In order to make it eco-friendly and energy efficient, the railway station will be powered by solar energy. 6 lifts, 11 escalators and 3 travelators will be installed in the railway station along with two underpasses. This railway station will also facilitate differently abled travellers. It will have a capacity of parking 300 cars, 850 2-wheelers, rickshaws, buses and taxies. If any natural disaster or other kind of emergency strikes, the station can be evacuated within 6 minutes.
