Times have changed, and circumstances have upended. There is no denying that. As the world reels back in pain and confusion, in an attempt to find a new normal, a beacon of consistency, one thing in my view has still remained eminently constant. The power of innovation. As COVID-19 took hold of the world’s glands, the worst of circumstances for mankind came to the forefront. But, along with that came the unrestrained spirit of the human mind. The spirit of innovation. Innovation, mashed with a spirit of resilience.
The 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award (YICA) is one such platform that is supporting young innovators to make a resilient mark on the innovation landscape, especially when global circumstances currently coerce to be the opposite. 3M in partnership with Confederation of Indian Industry, once again brings the Young Innovators Challenge Awards 2020 for India’s youth. This is an annual online competition to identify, encourage, source and recognise the ability of young people to create new solutions to challenges of sustainability. The Challenge is searching for disruptive future ready innovations & solutions that can strength India’s leadership globally. These ideas could be in the areas of health, education, livelihood, environment, art & culture, governance or inclusive development. 3M is not only looking at products, services or technology as solutions but also practices and initiatives that will be responsible for generating a shift in people’s thinking to drive positive change.
A community-driven Rural Innovation studio, enabling design thinking among rural children, An electricity independent low cost, neonatal continuous positive Airway Pressure device, A setup to offer free access to legal and consulting services to women facing violence and, Biodegradable pads made out of discarded bananas are just some of the 32 innovations that the 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award has supported for the past 6 years. This year the awards are promoting Inclusive Ideas for a Resilient India.
On a global stage, 3M has long been a proponent of innovation which had applications in solving real-time problems, pestering billions across the globe. Carrying this message forward, 3M India in partnership with CII, launched the Young Innovators Challenge Awards in 2014 at the Tenth anniversary of the CII India Innovation Summit to create a platform to identify, recognize, and support young innovators who are at an early stage of launching sustainable solutions towards solving key socio-economic problems.
The applications for the 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award 2020 are now open.
If you have an idea or an innovation that can ignite the next generation solution to the last mile in creating a better India or know of a worthwhile rural innovator who could benefit from this forum, please take action for this unique opportunity.
